“Ozbekraqs” National Dance Association

On 8 January 1997 a decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was issued "On development of national dance and choreography in Uzbekistan" and special resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers was adopted on 25 February 1997 on its practical implementation.

Based on these legal documents "Ozbekraqs" National Dance Association named after M. Turgunboeva was created under Tashkent Choreography School (Tashkent State Higher School of National Dance and Choreography). The Association united republican ensembles of "Bahor", "Zarafshon", "Lazgi", "Tanovar", Karakalpak ensemble "Aykulash" as well as "Sumalak" (Andijan), "Lola" (Bukhara), "Gulirano" (Jizzakh), "Momogul" (Kashkadarya), "Navoiy navolari", "Namangan gullari", "Samarqand bakhori", "Boysun" (Surkhandarya), "Shalola" (Tashkent region), etc.

The National Dance Association "Ozbekraqs" and its ensembles have been making significant efforts to preserve rich dancing art heritage and to develop it under contemporary conditions. As such, annually several dance festivals are organized to identify best performers and choreographers, who are awarded with the awards named after M. Turgunbaeva.
